There are different religions that have the belief of a soul, whether it is in a human or all things. There is also an idea that directly relates the external beauty of an individual to that individual’s character of their soul. For example, a beautiful person has a good soul whereas an ugly person has a bad soul. There is also the old saying that you should never judge a book by its cover. Why is it that there can be contradictions for almost every old saying? Another example is one should learn from history or be doomed to repeat it, but there is another saying of one should not live in the past.
